CMS Student and Parent News – Nov. 8th – 12th
Parents,
It is hard to believe but our 2nd grading period ends this Tuesday, November 9th. Please have your child pull up all their 6 classes in their Canvas account to ensure they are “up to date” on their assignments and giving their best effort.
Reminder to athletes and students participating in clubs or after-school activities. These students must be passing 5 out of 6 of their classes each grading period to participate or try-out for sports or stay active in a club or other activity.

Unified Champions and “World Kindness Day”
World Kindness Day is November 13, which this year falls on Saturday. As we begin to get Unified Champions started I would like to explain Unified Champions and our first school wide activity which will cumulate on Friday. Sign up sheets will be in the office and students can sign up to join until Friday. Please share the following with your students to assist in familiarizing them with what Unified Champions is.
Unified Champions is a Special Olympics program that is aimed at promoting and nurturing meaningful social inclusion in order to foster interpersonal relationships and whole school participation through inclusive activities that occur within the normal contexts of the school environment. The three main components of being a Unified Champion School are inclusive sports, inclusive youth leadership and whole school engagement.
Chase Middle School became a Unified Champion school four years ago and our banner hangs in the main hall in the middle directly in front of the school entrance.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and obviously we've missed that. However, I know in WIN time you are covering Social/Emotional information and lessons. Unified Champions may carry over a few anti-bullying activities during the month of November, if so details will be shared with you.
To kick off Unified Champions this year we will hold a school wide activity for all students and staff to make and write notes of kindness and encouragement to others. Monday, posters will be placed around the school and each classroom teacher will receive a Kindness Packet. Inside, teachers will find materials for their class, including teachers, to make and write notes to two people in the school. Encouraging them, praising them, explaining why they enjoy interaction with that person. These can be students, teachers, administration, support staff, cafeteria staff and custodians. One of the two given notes must be to another student. Remind students to think of others they don't usually interact with, students who may stay to themselves and students in self-contained classes so that everyone is included. These students do not have to be in their class, it can be made for any student in the school.
Once completed, have each student seal their note in given envelope and place in provided bag. Our class will gather the bags on Thursday morning, sort them and then deliver Kindness notes on Friday!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. More information concerning future plans, time for club meetings and interaction time, and expectations from each classroom will be provided in the coming weeks.
Thank you for cooperating and getting Unified Champions off to a great start!
I promise, we will not regret putting effort and importance on Unified Champions!
Ms. Sneed
