Atrium Health School-Based Virtual Care

Sick at School? Help is Here!

With Atrium Health Levine Children’s School-Based Virtual Care, your child can see a healthcare provider without leaving school.

What you’ll love about it

Exceptional providers

Virtual visits are performed by providers from Atrium Health Levine Children’s, the region’s only children’s hospital awarded by U.S. News & World Report.

No missed school or work

While your child sees the virtual provider at school, you can join by phone or video from wherever you are.

Affordable care

Many insurance plans cover virtual care, and financial assistance may be available if you don’t have insurance.

How it works

A teacher or school nurse can request a virtual visit when your child isn’t feeling well during the school day. You can also send a note requesting a visit in advance for minor, non-contagious conditions.
  1. With your consent, a medical professional arrives at the school to connect to a virtual provider. You’ll be invited to join the visit by phone or video.
  2. During the visit, the virtual provider performs a physical examination. They use special equipment to look at your child’s heart, lungs, ears and throat – all over video.
  3. The virtual provider diagnoses your child’s condition and offers a treatment plan. They can also order prescriptions if needed.
  4. With your permission, we send notes from your child’s visit to their primary care doctor. If they don’t have a doctor, we can help you find one. If your child’s condition is minor and non-contagious, you can both return to your day without leaving school or work.
