CMS Student and Parent Announcements – May 24th – 28th

FINAL GRADING PERIOD - STUDENT WORK DUE MAY 24TH AT 3PM

IN PERSON AND REMOTE STUDENT Parents,

please check and make sure your child has submitted all assignments to be graded no later than 3pm on Monday, May 24th.

Some students' final grading period performance will determine if they will need to attend summer school.  We need several days to finalize, contact parents, and arrange bussing prior to the Memorial Day weekend.  The last week assignments will be preview activities for next school year content.  Summer school will begin on Tuesday, June 1st.

8th grade Awards Day and “Clap Out”

Awards Day will be Friday, May 28, at 8:30 in the gym. Two people per student may attend, mask are required along with social distancing. Please check-in at the front desk when you arrive. Clap out will be at 11:30 and parents are welcome to return to school as we “clap out” our 8th graders.

Summer School – June 1st – July 13th – Information sent home this week

The NC General Assembly recently passed House Bill 82 and Governor Cooper signed it into law.  This legislation provides funding for a summer school opportunity for students who do not meet the promotion standards (passes 3 out of 4 core classes for the school year).  If your child is currently not meeting promotion standards and you would like them to have the opportunity to attend to work towards possible promotion please make sure to mark your calendar for these dates. We currently have some students in a course recovery class during exploratory.  Some of these student may have the opportunity to now pass depending on how many assignments they have successfully completed.

Letters were given to students and mailed to all students on Friday, May 14th who will need to attend summer school to be able to be promoted to the next grade level.  These parents will also receive a follow up phone call this week to confirm attendance and arrange bus transportation.  Please note summer school is IN PERSON.  There will be no option for remote attendance.  Also note we may have students place OUT or IN summer school based on their end of grade test scores and final 6th weeks report card.  You will be notified later this week if there is a change for your child.

-EVERY Wednesday is a remote learning day for ALL students.  All students should have assignments to complete every Wednesday for all courses.

-Wednesday’s also is a REQUIRED Course Recovery attending school day for students who are Full Time Remote and not passing 1 or more core class for the school year.  This is from 8am – 3pm.  Parents must provide transportation to and from school.
