CMS Student and Parent News - Nov. 23rd - 27th
LEARNING INTENT FORM COMPLETED BY ALL PARNETS
EVERY PARENT MUST COMMPLETE THIS FORM FOR YOUR CHILD EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT ANY CHANGES FROM YOUR CHILD’S CURRENT FORMAT FOR ATTENDING SCHOOL.
Chase Middle parents, please complete this if you have NOT already completed the 2nd semester learning intent form for your child. In preparation for the transition to the second semester in January, we are asking all parents of middle school students to select their child's learning program by submitting a new intent form. You will choose again whether you want your child to attend school in person or all remote. You will have two different choices for in person depending on how quickly the state opens up middle and high schools.
To indicate your child’s learning program for second semester, please submit that selection by completing this form online. We currently only have about ½ our students completed as of Friday. This is now past due. Please complete as soon as possible.
To complete the form follow this link. http://edl.io/n1339985 (Links to an external site.)
This information and link is also available on the Rutherford County Schools homepage and the Chase Middle Facebook page.
Student work assignments this week:
Students will have work assignments for Monday – Wednesday of this week. Wednesday is an optional teacher workday, however it is still an instructional day for students to complete work. All work assignments for this week are due no later than Sunday, Nov. 29th at 11:59pm.
MAP Testing – Week of Nov. 30th – Dec. 4th
Parents, please make every effort to have hybrid students attend both assigned days for this week. They will be testing both days they attend. Remote students have been contacted with their assigned days to attend school to test. Remote student parents need to contact the school if you have NOT received information for the days to report to school. It is crucial that students take this test serious and give their best effort. We will be using these results to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student to best support them over the next 6 months.
End of 2nd 6th-weeks grading period and promotion reminders
We are now entering our 3rd week of the new grading period. First, we want to thank the majority of our students who are completing their work, staying in contact with teachers and doing their best with our current situation. We also want to thank our parents who we all realize are now having to help check insure your student is completing and staying up to date on their assignments.
We certainly understand the challenges we face as parents and teachers keeping our students motivated to complete assignments with our current format. Unfortunately, we have some students not completing work and failing one or more classes at this time. . This week we will be contacting parents of students not being successfully to arrange meetings with administration and teachers.
The state is requiring normal grading procedures and we will be following our local promotion and accountability policy for this school year. We also have all state testing on regular schedule. Students must pass 3 our of 4 core classes to be promoted to the next grade level. For athletics, students must be passes 5 out of 6 (including exploratory classes) to be eligible to play a sport. Parents are reminded you can request a “parent account” to monitor assignments completed, read announcements, and monitor your child’s grades. Go to the Chase Middle homepage under the “Parents and Students” section then “Parent Resources” to set this account up
iPad Charging Reminder
Parents please ensure you have a routine in place where your child’s iPad is charged each day before attending school. We do not have extra chargers and this causes a disruption in your child’s ability to complete assignments. Thank you for your assistance.
Robotics Team Applications
We plan to have a Robotics Team at Chase Middle this year. We will begin at CMS after Christmas break. We will not have our annual regional competition this year.
We will try to have a possible competition within our school or with another middle school in the spring (depending on reopening guidelines). Open to students in grades 6th through 8th. Be looking for the application sent out in Canvas Announcements soon.
Sports Reminders
With Girls volleyball now playing we wanted to remind parents and our community of the restrictions and guidelines for spectators. Currently our State guidelines limit indoor sports events for middle and high to a maximum of 25 spectators. Parents will not be allowed to travel to away events and the all tickets have already been provided to parents of athletes for home games. We certainly would like for more attendance, however, we must adhere to these guidelines to be able to play. Thank you for your understanding.
